Our goal here at Unaffiliated is to provide you with the most accurate news and information available. We are not investigators or reporters, we do not work for or thrive off of clicks, we just want to find the truth, the facts, and then we explain how that can affect our lives. We are educators, and as educators we seek out the best sources for news and information we can find on a daily basis.
When evaluating sources w should always remember the mnemonic PROP.
P - Primary or secondary
R - Do they have a reason to lie?
O - Do other sources corroborate?
P - Is the information public or private?

Best Sources for News and Information
The Associated Press
We are The Associated Press. We have a long-standing role setting the industry standard for ethics in journalism. It is our job — more than ever before — to report the news accurately and honestly.
ProPublica
ProPublica is an independent, nonprofit newsroom that produces investigative journalism with moral force. We dig deep into important issues, shining a light on abuses of power and betrayals of public trust — and we stick with those issues as long as it takes to hold power to account.
The Guardian
The Guardian has something US newsrooms increasingly don’t: guaranteed independence. With no billionaire or big corporate owner, our journalists are free to report without interference: our job is to scrutinize the rich and powerful, not take orders from them.
Politico
POLITICO illuminates the forces shaping global power. Since 2007, we have delivered intelligence that anticipates tomorrow’s headlines, not reports on yesterday’s news. As politics has increasingly become the defining force of our era, our work has never been more vital.
Democracy Docket
An entirely free website of news, information and analysis about what is happening to democracy. Free daily and weekly newsletters. A premium membership program that gives extra content and helps finance the rest. Democracy Docket was created to never back down or obey. It has no corporate backers, venture capitalists or private equity investors. It's only accountable to its members who support its 22-person team.

Meidas Touch Network
MeidasTouch Network (MTN) was founded by three brothers Ben, Brett, and Jordy Meiselas.
MTN is a pro-democracy news network. MTN has quickly established itself as one of the most viewed and visited news networks in the world. MeidasTouch is independently owned and operated. Website operations are led by former Georgia prosecutor Ron Filipkowski, who has uncovered some of the most significant scoops in recent election cycles. Supporters of the MeidasTouch Network have built a vibrant pro-democracy community referred to as the Meidas Mighty.
NPR
NPR is an independent, nonprofit media organization that was founded on a mission to create a more informed public. Every day, NPR connects with millions of Americans on the air, online, and in person to explore the news, ideas, and what it means to be human. Through its network of member stations, NPR makes local stories national, national stories local, and global stories personal. NPR.org
More Perfect Union
The mission of More Perfect Union, an Emmy award-winning advocacy journalism nonprofit, is built on a simple credo: “Building power for the working class.” Here’s what that means:
We speak directly to young, working class Americans where they are online by reporting on the real struggles and challenges of the working class from a working class perspective, and we attempt to connect those problems to potential solutions.
Bad Faith Times
Bad Faith Times is an independent publication launched in April 2022 by Denny Carter. The site covers how conservatives have used bad-faith political arguments to advance fascism into the mainstream.

The Intellectualist
In a noisy and polarized digital landscape, The Intellectualist stands out as a trusted source of reason, insight, and clarity. Since 2015, we’ve cultivated a loyal, high-engagement audience of business leaders, institutional investors, economists, legal scholars, technologists, and public policy professionals. These are not passive consumers of information, but discerning, intellectually engaged individuals who seek depth, context, and substance across critical domains such as governance, law, technology, and long-term global trends. The Intellectualist is not just a source of information—it is a cultivated community committed to engaging with the big questions that define our future. Our editorial focus spans politics, economics, science, governance, and institutional accountability—offering high-context analysis to an audience of critical thinkers, changemakers, and intellectually driven professionals. For mission-aligned brands, we provide a rare opportunity to connect at the intersection of trust, influence, and forward-looking impact.
Brennan Center
As a nonpartisan law and policy organization, the Brennan Center conducts rigorous research and provides compelling analyses of pressing legal and policy issues. We also pioneer reforms, such as Supreme Court term limits, small donor public financing, and national standards for voting rights.

The internet is noisy and chaotic; Medium is quiet yet full of insight. It’s simple, beautiful, collaborative, and helps you find the right readers for whatever you have to say.

Unsolicited advice for anyone on Bluesky who wants to fight fascism in 2026 - don't stress about following big national accounts. Instead, follow local groups and people who are doing actual work on the ground. Join them and do stuff right in your community. That’s where the real action is. (@gregpak.net)
